I tend to always have a sock on the needles, and then one larger project, so I can usually grab whatever's appropriate, depending on whether I need something that's mindless, or whether it's something I need to pay attention to.Willahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04816425431273554588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5904950.post-1144676570202726322006-04-10T08:42:00.000-05:002006-04-10T08:42:00.000-05:00Hi Willa!I knit little hats for preemies for chari...Hi Willa!

I knit little hats for preemies for charity and I always have my knitting with me in the car. I knit while stuck waiting at a train crossing or sit in the car and knit when John (my DH) goes to a hardware store or lumber yard or is running into Sears to check out their tools. :-) The patterns I use are simple and I've memorized them so I've been able to make lots more little hats that way then if I only did my knitting at specified times at home.

You can some photos of some of the hats I've knit on my webshots page if you're interested.
Monique
http:/community.webshots.com/user/primquilterAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5904950.post-1144542539752167732006-04-08T19:28:00.000-05:002006-04-08T19:28:00.000-05:00I try to alternate knitting with tiny needles (soc...I try to alternate knitting with tiny needles (socks on size 1's) and knitting with larger needles (I'm working on a shrug/sweater on 10's now), and I find that keeps my hands from hurting. If I knit on *really* large needles, like 13's or 15's, that *does* hurt my hands. It's just harder to hold on to needles that large. And I find that crochet hurts my wrists now, whereas it didn't used to. I suppose my hands and wrists might get used to the motions again, but I haven't tried.Willahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04816425431273554588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5904950.post-1144518462573834362006-04-08T12:47:00.000-05:002006-04-08T12:47:00.000-05:00I definitely understand the pull toward knitting, ...I definitely understand the pull toward knitting, even though I don't know how to knit! Those colors and different textures are so delicious. Does it bother your wrists at all when you do it much?

I used to take a book, too, but now I take my Filofax (to putter and make lists when I'm stuck someplace). My Alphasmart Neo also fits in my purse (which is more like a tote). I was stuck at the Toyota service station yesterday longer than expected and was able to pull it out and write.

To be stuck someplace without the backup activity of some kind--what a nightmare!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
