Weekend

We slept in this morning 'til almost 10, I think. Bob got up for a couple of hours sometime around dawn; I was awake, but after lying there awhile, I went back to sleep. He made pancakes for breakfast, and now he's outside shoveling snow while the kitties and I stay inside.

Now that he's working a regular schedule, I've pretty much lost my "personal chef," so it was nice to be cooked for this morning. Even though I probably should feel guilty about it, I do enjoy the perks of being the girl--getting to park in the garage, being let out at the store doors so I don't have to walk in the rain, not having to shovel snow, etc. In fact, I don't think I've ever shoveled snow in my life! If it was up to me, I'd just walk/drive through it if possible; I certainly wouldn't be out there shoveling the sidewalk. I'm very grateful that he is, though.

I had planned on working this weekend. I'm winding up a big job at work, and I'd like to have it finished before we leave on vacation, and not leave it for someone else. I had to go out to the client's office and exchange some things -- they'd been proofing and had stuff for me to pick up, and I'd been correcting and had stuff to leave for them -- but I had information that the doors would be locked at 6:00. But I was waiting for a process to run at the office, and wasn't able to leave until a little after 6:00, so I just came home. As I left, I said to Shane, who had been running a search index for me, "Well, I guess I'll just have to have a regular weekend."

I had planned on working on the stuff I was to pick up, but without that, I didn't have any work to do, so: regular weekend, i.e., shopping, sleeping in, reading, etc.

Sometime Friday evening I checked my work email; the POP service was down, and I had to check it on webmail. I found an email from someone at the client's office saying that while the guard does lock the doors at 6:00, he's still there, and if I would just pound on the door, he'd come and open up for me. She had sent it at 5:30; I'm not sure why I didn't get it before I left, but I do know I shut my email down a little while after that and spent some time doing busywork stuff, cleaning up my desktop, filing things away, stuff like that. And since the POP service was down when I got home, it could have been down while I was still at work and I didn't notice it; Shane and I were the only ones there after 5:00.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Lately, i.e., the last few months, if I'm not working, I feel guilty. Right now, there's nothing I can do, so the reason for the guilt has been taken away, and I spent the weekend doing things I wanted to do, relaxing and sleeping. It started snowing yesterday, so I ran errands in wet, slushy snow, but it wasn't too bad. I made "hobo dinners" for dinner when Bob around 8:00 -- pie pans with a layer of sliced potatoes, then diced onions, a few cut up carrots, and a hamburger patty or two on top, then covered tightly with aluminum foil and baked for about an hour at 425° (It's something that my mom used to make. The original inspiration was from Girl Scout camp, when we made packets out of aluminum foil with the same kind of stuff inside, and put them in the fire to cook.)

Anyway, it turned out to be a pretty quiet weekend. I didn't go out today at all. I went upstairs at around 4:30 to take a nap with Dinah, and Bob and Pye joined us a little later. We ended up sleeping for about an hour, then we got up and went out to the grocery store for stuff to make lunches with this week. A nice weekend.

I so miss your daily entries. I look and no new entries need to find a new blog I guess.

Love the picture of your kitty. I have shoveled lots of snow, even though it's hard work, it's good exercize. At my age of 63 I need to keep these bones moving :)

Hope you take lots of pictures on your vacation and post them here.

Mary, I definitely will take lots of pictures! I probably won't be able to get online in Mexico -- the hotel doesn't have wifi -- it will depend on if I can find a cybercafe, but I will definitely have stuff to post when we get back.

Anonymous -- you know, I hardly ever comment on stuff like this, and I'm sure you aren't meaning to be unkind, but I work full time at a job that has been MUCH more than full time lately, plus I work a LOT of freelance hours at home. Plus I have a house to take care of, and a husband. My website is a luxury -- I don't have any advertising on it, and I don't make any money off it aside from about $100/YEAR on Amazon commissions, so any time spent on it is totally a labor of love. If you require daily entertainment from me, then yeah, you should probably find a new blog to read. Weekly is about the best I can do lately.
